The Orana 44
The Catamaran lifestyle... Orana 44'
Catamarans are the
ideal choice for a cruising couple. They're easy to handle under power and
sail. They offer a stable platform for the experienced and novice sailor
alike. Modern designs, like the Fountaine Pajot, have the load carrying
ability not available in older designs. They go to windward well. They
tack. In fact, with over 100 ocean deliveries of 1,000 miles or more in a
variety of conditions--of monohulls and catamarans--we find that
catamarans offer about 20% faster passages.
So, how
safe is your Fountaine Pajot? Each one does it's shake down as a
trans-Atlantic to the East Coast. The insurance for a catamaran is the
same or less compared to a comparably sized monohull. See much more about
this in How to choose a serious voyaging catamaran... below.
The unique Orana 44
THE CATAMARAN
WORLD HAS JUST CHANGED!
…and Fountaine Pajot, the
world's leading builder for 30 years, is leading the way to a new generation
of cruising catamarans that have the load carrying capacity, while
maintaining performance. They are easily handled by one person or a couple
with everything leading to the control cockpit. On the new 44' The helmsman
is not isolated, but yet the helm station has room for 2-4 people. The new
interior and wood treatment is awesome--you will find it Light and airy with
the all new light wood treatment. The windows offer an even more panoramic
view than ever before. The all new one level living design allows you
to move from cockpit to interior seamlessly with no step up or down--there
is virtually no transition and no step as you move through the boat and,
with the hard top, you expand the living area enormously while having the
capability to have side curtains that really work so that you could A/C or
heat this area!!
Not obvious, but something
that works beautifully (See the slide show), is that the outside table as
you see it, is a cocktail table as is. However with a quick disconnect, the
inside table attaches on top of the outside table (remember, you’re under
cover and in warm climates you may leave the inside table outside) and,
voila! You have a full sized table outside, and what’s left inside is a
cocktail table underneath!! See the slide show.
The other thing is the
staterooms. Even the forward staterooms are larger and more easily accessed.
The heads all have separate showers and this really works--though if there
was any compromise, it was to put more room in staterooms and less in
heads--we think this is the right compromise.
The owner's stateroom is to starboard and features a large, island bed
that is low and easy to get into. The head/shower is extra large and the
entire forward area can be customized to be an office, walk in wardrobe with
washer/dryer or any combination you would like to come up with--give us a
call and talk with our
customizing people.
What's unique about the FP approach to the helm/control station is that
it is accessible for passage or communication to the cockpit. The boom is
low and it remains easy to get to the sail for tucking it in, or unsnarling
anything that's come adrift. While 2 or 3 can sit at the helm and a cabriole
covers the helmsman for rain and sun protection. A step forward and you're
at the sail control station with every control led here.
This is the first, and only, completely successful
solution that we've seen that incorpora
tes a hard top, with an
integrated helm and control station!
There is one compromise that will always occur with any raised helm
station and that is visibility forward to the opposite side, and on a
downwind leg. Our solution is to install two windows in the Genoa, and for
those that want the ultimate solution, a video camera that has a broad view
forward and displays on the helm chart plotter. An elegant solution that
offers better visibility and safety than you'll find on any catamaran with
any configuration. More about helm station here.
See the slide show.
Loads of pictures, including pictures of custom installations. Specs. Polars Layouts. This slide show
has everything. Advance or pause it at your own pace.
How to choose a serious, voyaging catamaran.
GOOD CAT, BAD CAT-a short course not brand
specific, in choosing a serious, live-aboard, voyaging catamaran. We've
been Fountaine Pajots leading North American dealer since the early 90's.
We've customized and commissioned around 70 boats.
During this time, we've interviewed
delivery captains, designers, builders and owners. We've been to the
factories. We've delivered them ourselves and chartered them on the East
coast and in the Caribbean. During our travels, we interviewed all of
these experienced sailors and recorded their thoughts and opinions. This
is the definitive, simple guide that describes what to look for in a
serious, voyaging catamaran.
All about Fountaine Pajot
FOUNTAINE PAJOT Find out about how they're
built, the philosophy, why they are #1 in the Catamaran industry.
FOUNTAINE PAJOT is the first French naval
constructor to have obtained "QUALITY certification to ISO 9001 : 2000
Version" for its entire manufacturing cycle. This certification validates
the quality initiative pursued by the company for more than 28 years and
justifies your trust. Fountaine Pajot has already constructed 1420
cruising catamarans and Bay Yacht Agency has consistently been their
leading, North American dealer.
The final key to success...
It has been our experience, that the final
critical element in order to get your boat the way that you want her, is
to have an experienced complete commissioning facility in the states as
your partner. Unlike other dealers, we have had the experience of
commissioning over 75 Fountaine Pajots at our central facility in
Annapolis, Americas sailing capital...
We know that we can supply equipment that
is more serviceable in the U.S.
We assign a personal, project manager to
you. He will interview you and gain an understanding of how you plan
to use your boat, and what your expectations are. Then, we will choose and
specify air conditioning systems, generators, water makers and a host of
electrical and electronic equipment for local installation. We can
fabricate custom welded Biminis, storage racks and other equipment that
far exceeds the minimum specifications of typical European standards. We
know that you want rugged, reliable, easy to service equipment that will
stand the test of time. You want luxury and comfort--all at a reasonable
cost.
We will truly customize your boat for your
specific requirements with equipment that will be easy to get service on
in the U.S., the Caribbean or wherever your voyaging takes you, and... we
do it cost effectively. Usually for far less than the comparable cost of
doing the same work in Europe.
Consult
with us about your specific needs, alternatives to financing, advice on
dockage, insurance, commissioning, delivering your boat or whatever else
that you need to know in order to move forward and make an informed
decision. We're here to help. To share over 30 years of experience with
the voyaging life style...
It doesn't cost, it pays to go with
experience. The Bay Yacht Agency Group, serving clients since 1972. We
look forward to meeting with you!
