1. Figure out how much of your payment will be interest each year--in advance. Click here then look at year by year results. Then...

 2. Go to the IRS Withholding calculator. Click here. Adjust your withholding with the known extra interest deduction.

Using our Boat as a business plan, I used the Withholding calculator above. On page 3 (of 5--quite simple) I entered the amount of tax deductions after offsetting income in "Other Misc. Deductions" and got the following summary.

Summary from IRS calculator

Based on the information you previously entered, your anticipated income tax for 2011 is $9,489 If you do not change your current withholding arrangement, you will have $51,000 withheld for 2011, resulting in an overpayment of $41,511 when you file your return. If you want your withholding to more closely match your anticipated tax, adjust your withholding on a new Form W-4 as follows:
  • For the only job you entered (which has a projected salary of $200,000): 41 allowances.

  • Check the “Married” box on your Form W-4.

Assuming these recommended allowance(s) are in effect for the rest of 2011, your expected refund should be about $125. Following this recommendation will ensure that the amount withheld from your wages will cover all of your projected tax liability while minimizing your refund.

In our summary business plan and/or seminar we will show you exactly what to expect in tax advantages and you can then use the calculator to adjust your taxes--exactly! We make it easy and have a knowledgeable CPA available for additional help as needed.
