Hybrid Houseboats, Frequently Asked Questions Q&A

Q. Are they boats?
A. Yes. Powered, C.G. certified, financed and insured as boats
Q. Where can you keep them?
A. With 15.5 and 12’ beam—anywhere a boat can be kept. We have over 200 slips available and identified on the Chesapeake Bay and many others at other locations.
Q. Can they be customized?
A. Yes..We have over 7 layouts and many custom plans available with one to three bedroom models available
Q. Can I go South in the winter on the InterCoastal
A. Yes, but that's the hard way. It's much less expensive and easier to simply load them on a truck and take them to a marina with a regular travel lift or launching ramp and simply re-launch them!
Q. What do you mean by saying that they’re totally green?
A. We use incinerator heads so there is no holding tanks or black water. We use a grey water treatment system, which is recycled for the heads. The only discharge is the pure, treated grey water which is drinkable quality!
Q. What do they cost?
A. Depending on customization, generally the 42’ cottage is between: $60,000 and $98K  while the 55’ Villa is between $173,000 and $265,000.
Q. What ways do other people use them?
A. As many ways as there are people, but surprisingly, full time live-aboard is in the minority.
  •  As a vacation home
  • As a full time live-aboard.
  • As a vacation home/ a rental property--set up in our Boat-As-A-Business program, 10-11 weeks of rental will cover 100% of their costs.
  • As a guest cottage behind waterfront property
  • As a remote, or even primary office.
  • As a dorm room for kids at a college near the water.
  • On the Bay, on lakes, on rivers. At resort locations and private property.
  • At unbuildable lots--with 7-18" of draft, they can go almost anywhere. With their on-board green system there is no sewage treatment issue. Just moor them and get power to them and they're ready to go--true plug and play technology. (They can have on-board osmosis water makers so even in the winter they can make water. We can use an elastic mooring system with floating, self-moored docks so they don't even need a lengthily permit process to get a fixed dock!)
  • Keep them in one location initially, and then move them overland by truck to a second location later.
  • You name it--the possibilities are endless!
