A wife
rediscovers a way she can sail--in her style!

"I don't want to live in a hole"!
Douglass was used to living in nice homes and entertaining in
comfortable spaces. She drives an expansive motor home that is
light and bright.
The first monohull she sailed seemed claustrophobic below
to this new sailor. She went along with the experience to please her
husband--but this wasn't the way she wanted to spend her time. While she
was
adventurous and loved to hike, and ride bikes and motorcycles (as well
as spend time in the motorhome, she just couldn't imagine
entertaining her friends and family in the typical sailboat living in a
hole (as she describes it).
Eventually,
she chartered a catamaran in the Caribbean, but, this hands on Gal
found that it lacked the "feel" of a "real" sailboat.
Then she discovered the Jeanneau deck saloon mo
dels.
She reports:
"I love the openness and light below. There's storage
everywhere as the raised floor provides for equipment and storage spaces
below. The queen sized master is easy to move around to make up or just
to enjoy for a quick nap.

But even more, I love the cockpit. It's really bigger
and more comfortable than the catamaran cockpit, and I can enjoy the
sailing without everyone having to move when I want to tack the boat!"
P.S. You'll still find Douglass motorcycling, Motorhoming
and, yes, also out on a Jeanneau DS model every chance she gets.
Other
benefits Added to Douglass's thoughts...
-
The hull is not compromised. It's the
same performance hull used on the conventional models
and even on the performance models.
-
There's a life raft generator locker
aft which saves room in the other storage lockers and
places the generator outside the accommodations (less
noise, no diesel smell).
-
The cockpit is larger than most 60'
boats--even on the 42' or 45DS
-
The visibility from the "raised"
cockpit is superb, and you can move to the high or low
side for better visibility as needed. Of course all the
controls lead here so that you can have 6 guests for
lunch, and no one has to move when you tack!
-
Below, there's a whole new world of
lightness with the large deck windows and huge, hull
ports that offer visibility to the outside world whether
you're sitting or standing.
-
The raised floor, provides equipment
and storage spaces and frees up the space under the
berths for additional storage. With the accompanying
raised cockpit--you have exceptional visibility from the
cockpit and plenty of headroom over the aft cabin
berth--this is the more practical replacement for the
older, center-cockpit design!
-
You have your choice of a large
owner's cabin forward or aft. Either has lots of room,
storage, headroom and is light and bright while offering
exceptional privacy.
