Belize
An
Eco-paradise--for those who want to experience sailing the way it used to
be!
The less crowded, more
natural alternative.
Perfect Sailing: Wonderful
weather (average year round temperature of 82 degrees), predictable
sailing with trade winds averaging a comfortable 13-20 knots, and easy,
line of sight navigation make this a sailors paradise. Bonus: You
sail behind North America's largest reef--in protected waters with the
wind on your beam in both directions.
Easy Access:
Belize is easier than you might imagine to get to.
Fly into Belize City and take a short connecting flight to our base.
Great Boats:
We recommend the exceptional boats that we have placed with some of
the best managed companies in the Caribbean and, in addition, we broker
charters for other companies.

Your Hosts...
Paul & Nathalie
Steel
Paul & Nathalie Steel are Canadians, who have spent their winters in Belize since 1978.
Nathalie is trilingual in Danish, Spanish and English and was a flight attendant until starting a family--their children are now 8 & 6.
Paul is a Canadian/Belizean who for twenty years has worked as a commercial diver for the oil and gas industry. He is well used to maintaining complex and intricate mechanical systems--so sorting out any problems aboard yachts should be a breeze! He's a keen sailor and has cruised and dove the vast Belizean reef system many times.
Now, onto Belize...

Everyone has a favorite place...
Mine is very exclusive. There's no hint of a charter boat nearby.
It's either very near George's, or 1,500 miles away. I've already said too much.
Don't tell your friends!
First, you notice the water. Thin and colorful. Stretching out. Punctuated by Islands.
Friendly people speaking English, or, Cajun (fast, lilting English); a touch of British dialect: smiles.
Small settlements with sand for streets where you get around by golf cart (in the major settlements) or by walking; or sailing; or Kayaking.
Sailing between Islands you stop to dive among the unspoiled coral. You sail inside the protected reef that stretches for over 150 miles, the second largest barrier reef in the world. Anchor off a sandy atoll, or near a mangrove Island where you'll be watched over by soaring birds worthy of the best watchers.
Pelicans, magnificent frigate birds, cormorants, Reseats spoonbills, petrels, herons, ibises, storks and flamingos. You might even sight a flock of chattering, brilliantly colored parrots, parakeets and toucans. Perhaps a scarlet macaw.
A few details...
Why hasn't everyone discovered this sailing paradise? Until this year the government maintained a prohibitive tax on pleasure boats set up for business. This has now been lifted. Even so, the logistics are difficult. This will never be some big profit center good for large charter companies. A smaller company like TMM can make this work with a small, efficient, tightly run operation. This is a valuable addition for us because it gives our SailScape club members a unique alternative to our established bases.
Getting here is easy with connections from several major hubs including: Miami, New Orleans, Houston and L.A. directly to Belize
City. From there, it's a short hop to our base at lovely San Pedro at the Belize Yacht Club where a complimentary cold drink awaits you as you unwind.

Dive, Belize
The Cayes (pronounced keys), the offshore atolls, and the barrier reef
are the main attractions in Belize. The barrier reef, which is 185 miles
long, is the longest in the Western Hemisphere. The Cayes are coral sand
and/or mangroves islands, that are located between the mainland and the
barrier reef, on the barrier reef, and on or within the reef perimeters of
the offshore atolls. Go to the link for great information. Whether
snorkeling or diving Belize is a divers paradise. If you want to do serious
Scuba diving, we will link you up with dive boats who can take you and/or
your guests that want to go to the serious dive spots off for this, while
the rest of your party continues to enjoy their cruising.
