"Because you asked"
1. How can Immediately reduce the monthy cost of my boat?
A. Assuming you qualify for the second home interest deduction (you do unless you already have a second home) Calculate the interest portion of your loan and stop paying taxes on that portion immediately, instead of getting a tax refund at the end of the year. Example. On a 200,000 loan at 5.75% you're paying $1,404.17/Mo. Should be paying, out of pocket, $1,065.19/Mo. Reduce your monthly taxes by $338.98/mo now. Why make an interest free loan to IRS? (NOTE: BYA offers all it's customers a complete loan amortization table so they can get this benefit from the start.)
A. Another approach? If you're paying more than 6% interest and have good credit--refinance. Carrying costs are minimal and the savings significant. Sub 5% loans now going to well qualified clients. A good source? Our friends at Coastal Finance--Mark Delaney (Tell him we sent you). (800) 700-2009 or email to: mark@wefinancefun.com (Along with everything else, I love his email address!)
2. What does the C.G. vessel capacity mean, and what has happened to change things recently?
CG Capacity Restrictions Change Because "People Have Gotten Fatter"
The Coast Guard doesn't beat around the bush when explaining their new restrictions.
As of December 1, the Coast Guard's calculated vessel capacity has changed, based on an assumed higher average weight of passengers. Since 1960, the Coast Guard has calculated vessels' capacity using an assumed average weight per person of 160 pounds. An amended federal rule that took effect this month recalibrated the average weight of a passenger at 185, a 25-pound jump. Recreational boats and cruise ships are not affected by the change.
"The U.S. Coast Guard feels the U.S. people have gotten fatter over time," Capt. Ed Sparrow, owner of a Miami-based charter yacht called Holiday of Magic, told The Miami Herald. His boat's legal capacity has shrunk from 49 to 35 passengers.

With this theme in mind, I am starting a new series called:
40th Anniversary--Boat show boat sale
We are pre-selling the Oct., Annapolis boat show boats at very special prices. You are on the ground floor--you got first crack with this newsletter. What we need:
Jeanneau 379, 409, 44DS, 45DS, 50DS, 509, 53 and 57
Fountaine Pajot: 31, 44, 48, 57
Isara 50
Tayana 48 Plus one larger model 52-65.
These will be the best buys of the year. Call us: 410-263-2311
Profiles in courage!
On our recent VI trip, I talked to a customer and friend, Bill Fraser. He and his wife Eva were cruising on their Jeanneau 54' and contacted us to deliver a part to Steve who was in our party with his boat--a Fountaine Pajot 44. During our VHF conversation, Bill related to me how much he enjoyed his boat. The special cruising experiences he's had, the closeness he and Eva were experiencing and the enjoyment he gained in meeting new friends.
This spawned an idea. 'Why not contact other boat owners, each of whom, I know, overcame obstacles and courageously made the decision to get a boat? And, then share their stories, as well as the stories of those of you planning to get a boat soon.
Well the idea was an instant hit, and the stories are pouring in. I will share them with you, if you will simply share your story with me--as time and space permit.
Please fill out our survey and answer a few simple questions about how you got into boating, what's important to you, cruises planned someday, and cruises taken. It's fun and rewarding. If you like, you can check the box for me to use your story in Profiles in courage, or you can simply be a part of the survey results.
Please Take the survey...

Many of you made the courageous decision to acquire a boat. Some of you are about to make that decision. We thought we would share with you the stories, the hopes, dreams and lifestyle changes encountered by those who embraced the cruising life style--or are about to. A great illustration of what we heard was this, from PD in NJ:
"I have been sailing almost all my life. And frankly, the destinations have not been all that important. It's the sailing, and for the last 30 years, sharing this time with my wife. We both love cruising. There is nothing like finding a quite spot to drop the hook for the night after a long passage. And we have experienced this many times in many locations. We've met some very nice people along the way, and rarely, some not so nice. But I guess you need to meet one to know the other.
Sailing, and especially cruising, brings out the now in life. The past is no longer important and the future is just that, the future. When we are on our boat, we deal with the present, and so far, we've been dealt a winning hand"
Click on the graph for larger view.
These are just a couple of the interesting insights out of the 25 questions.
Want to know the rest? Want to share with our friends and readers what your plans, aspirations, and thoughts are? Take the survey. Click here.
Our customers are optimists. Sailing is a life style. After retiring, they plan to spend some time cruisiing the East Coast and Caribbean (among other places). But don't take my word for it--see what they say here.

More than Boat show prices in effect now--30% off! Want a boat for tax advantages in 2012? Want an early spring boat? For the next boat of each model ordered, we'll add a 30% savings to the discounts offered at the Annapolis boat show in Oct. and, in addition, get 2011 prices on 2012 models. Don't settle for 2/3's of a boat...
Yesterday, I was talking with our client, Carl H., that bought a 40' Fountaine Pajot power cat. He was telling us how pleased he was with the services we had been providing and the commissioning process. He said, "You guys have really did a great job. You know, I checked you out and got really good reports."
You agonize over choosing the best fit. You arrange financing and the order with the dealer. Then you sit back and rely on the dealer to put your boat together...
Most likely, the dealer orders all, or most everything from the factory. When the boat arrives, he bottom paints it, steps the mast and runs a cursery check on the equipment--and declares your boat commissioned!
The reality is that your boat is only 2/3 of the way there once it's ordered. Commissioning shouldn't be a one size, fits all, with the Salesman acting like a one man band (left) trying to coordinate everything.
BYA takes a team approach. We call it the 5 star commissioning process.
Our process starts with a commissioning meeting at least 30 days prior to your boats arrival (or immediately after you make the decision on a stock boat). This includes our business manager, project manager, and engineer--who meet you face to face, or via an internet Skype session. Read the rest>>5 star services here.

We've sold 5 boats in 3 weeks. We have some of the most innovative,
tested products in the industry. We offer world renowned, 5 star
commissioning services. We offer a unique business plan that gets you up to
50% of the boats cost in tax advantages this year, 2012. We offer more information than
anyone--just see some of the links in this newsletter!
1) Extremely Limited Product
Availability for 2012. Jeanneau's and Fountaine
Pajot's successes with its innovative new products at the Annapolis and
European Boat Shows, have pushed availabilities well into summer 2012 already.
For most models, a new order means a May-Aug.
However, Bay Yacht Agency ordered some models earlier to
ensure we would have some to deliver this year (especially for those wanting tax advantages this year (Also,
we have one last Isara 50 that can be delivered this year.)
2) Price Increases Coming in spring, 2012, Avoid them by Reserving a
Hull Now. Inflation is real, now, and going to get worse. Prices for our
products are still artificially low in the US market. Jeanneau's and
Fountaine Pajot's parent companies are large, well capitalized, publicly
traded companies with the resources to set its US pricing on US market
conditions in spite of adverse currency exchange rates. With the US
Treasury printing money at record levels to fund huge deficits (real
inflation is probably close to 10% now), we do not know how much longer this
can continue.
Inflation can actually work to protect your capital
investment. As new boats increase in price at rates of 10% or more per year,
you'll get more than what you paid if you sell down the line, or have a boat
acquired when your dollar was more valuable.
Reserve a hull for delivery up to 12 months
forward, and lock in today's lower prices...a small deposit is all that is
required to lock in everything while we work out your order and
financing...call for details.
3) Exciting New Models and Innovations are available now! Always wanted a bigger boat, but worried about docking? No
longer an issue with Jeanneau's 360 joystick docking (check out the amazing video (page 1) - this really
works!). Available now on most new models 40' and over. Speaking of
new models, We just returned from France and saw the all new: 375, 44DS and 509--preview them on our Jeanneau site.
4)LAST CHANCE!Huge Tax Advantages in 2012 with
Boat-as-a-Business. Including up to
$250,000 first-year deduction (Sect. 179) and 50% bonus depreciation
for 2011--this is scheduled to end next year.
5) Finance Rates are LOW.

New Verizon 2200 Hot spot.
Up to 5 computers get internet access for the price of one!
We use it on our motorhome, but will now use it on our boat. One
computer has the card, and it sets up a hot spot that up to 5
others within 100' can tap into. Also available with certain phone models
like the Palm Pre from Verizon or Sprint.
Above and Beyond
Important options we offer our clients--based
on requests.
Water filters. We are installing fresh water
filters so you can get the cleanest, best tasting water right
from a galley tap. It won't be necessary to lug on cases of
bottled water anymore!
Safety and security. When you leave the boat to go exploring or to your favorite
restaurant--do you worry about the stuff you left behind? With
most boats, an intruder can simply walk aboard and have access
to your personal stuff or valuable boat equipment that you are
responsible for. Now, we are installing heavy duty combination
locks and a keyed burglar alarm so the entire crew can have your
custom combination when they individually come back--but
intruders will move on to the next boat not so well protected.
Finally, a smelly subject. Do you object to the inevitable smells you find aboard? Whether
it's the head, bilge or cooking odors--it doesn't matter. Our
Ozone generator will clean the air before you board, and our on
board generator will keep your boat fresh while you're cruising.
What one customer relayed to us recently sums up our "Team
Approach".
What this customer said, about sums up how
commissioning can be done right...
We are now halfway into
our first week aboard Coexist and couldn't be
happier. Our experience with Bay Yacht from
pre-sale thru commissioning and after sale support has been seamless, thanks to you and everyone we
have dealt with from Bay Yacht from start to finish.
You made our purchase of the Jeanneau 44i one of the
best purchasing experiences we have known. We
only hope that you will be around for our next
purchase ... 20 years from now!
We would especially like
to give a big hand to Mark Sims for his project
management of the commissioning process. From the
first time we met him, we felt a real comfort level
in our decision to purchase our boat from Bay Yacht.
Mark and his group worked tirelessly to get
our boat fully commissioned in as timely a manner as
possible, considering the rainy season we have
experienced and his other commissioning obligations.
Mark has been totally upfront with us from Day 1 and
has been a pleasure to work with. His knowledge and
experience really helped us make informed decisions
about equipment and add-ons that we were
considering. I have worked with many
project managers in varied industries throughout my
career and can honestly say that Mark is one of, if
not the best, I have worked with. At our
turnover/walk-thru, Mark explained every piece of
equipment and system and patiently answered all of
our questions (and there were many). We have been
relying on the file box Mark put together with all
of our systems instructions and warranty information
as our "cheat sheet". As we find punch list
items and relay them to Mark, he or one of his crew
are here before we can blink.
Hats off to all of you. We are truly impressed with
our overall experience with Bay Yacht. Thank you so
much for everything. You're welcome to sail
with us anytime.

Want to throw away holding tanks? (And still be legal!)
Now you can!
We have worked with both incinerator and compost heads. (As
well as grey water treatment systems, and of course water

These have been around for a long time, they're proven
solutions. They've been used by the military and by isolated

They're practical (and legal) on a cat--just one more way to

Average wind, Chesapeake Bay/Miami/Rhode Isl/Virgin
Isl. NOTE: These are averages, on the Chesapeake (and most coastal
areas) there is a sea breeze (Ches-normally from about 12-4PM) where the
winds may be well into the teens, but the quiet periods of morning and
late evening bring the averages down and account for some areas
reputation for light air. Also note the small difference between summer
and June or Sept. which are considered prime sailing times--Plan your
sailing for afternoons, and motoring or quiet anchorages at other times.

There's one thing the Government continues to do right--offer
incentives to small business that drive the economy, and job market.
Our Boat as a business™ Program offers you an opportunity to set up
your own business and take advantage of these government incentives. 70%
of U.S. Businesses are small businesses. Why shouldn't you get the same
advantages that 1,000's of others are already getting?
You say that home based business is one of the few legal tax
shelters left. What does that mean? Sandy Botkin: First of all, understand something: We have two tax
systems in this country. [Many] times people think there's one for rich
and one for poor. That is a huge myth. What the systems are is one for
employees--people who don't know the rules, which are designed to take
your wealth--and one for self-employed people, [the rules of] which are
designed to create economic growth. The reason for that is, small
business generates over 70 percent of the jobs in this country. So
Congress passes good tax laws. And there are good tax laws--let me
emphasize this--for small business .

started the program back in the 70's. Since then, I have helped over 680
people successfully set their boat up as a business where tax advantages
and income reduced or eliminated their costs and they had their boat

having your boat and weathering the storm--truly taking advantage of the
Perfect Storm of Opportunity!
I don't know if this program would work for you or not. But I would

Chief Justice Leaonard Hand said, “Over and over again courts have said that there is nothing sinister in so arranging one's affairs so as to make taxes as low as possible. Everybody does so, rich or poor, and do right, for nobody owes any public duty to pay more taxes than the law demands. Taxes are enforced exactions, not voluntary contributions.”

new approach
Here's a unique new approach.
Sellers
The market is slow, right? Buyers are only buying at rock bottom prices?
It's time consuming and expensive to sell a boat? Why won't dealers take
trades--or if they do, at wholesale prices?
If you're looking to buy a new boat, we've developed a program to
overcome the difficulties of the current market--and get you into a new
boat for less!
Buyers-used
boats--a secret list.
New Listings: We are bringing fresh, new brokerage boats to the
market--boats you won't find on any standard listing site.
Certified boats: These boats are pre-surveyed, certified by us, and
offered with a third party warranty.
Great deals: These boats will be be well below market price because
we are subsidizing the sale price in order to make a new boat sale...
As a result of the boat show, we have developed a list of potential
trade-ins...
Great deals: Here's a totally secret list... These boats will be be well below market price
because we are subsidizing the sale price in order to make a new boat
sale. These owners have agreed to have us pre-certify their boat and
address any corrective issues in advance. They are motivated because
they want to buy a new boat--and if they act now, they can get a new
boat at a lower price now, than later. They are paying a greatly reduced
commission and can pass on the savings. At the end of the day, they are
offering an extremely attractive price. We're taking it a step further
and throwing in a part of our commission on a new boat, in order to
facilitate a quick sale.
Reserve your boat now, but pay for it in the spring!
Learn about the program, if you are considering a new boat and want to
trade your boat, or you're looking for a great deal in a used boat with
no costs until spring--click
