A Career Opportunity with SailScape, Our Charter division ?

BYA is leading company for selling, chartering and managing luxury yachts.  We have a sophisticated WEB site with over 4000  pages of information. 

Our client base is National and international.  Because of our long, successful history (started in 1972), and cutting edge tools, we are a leader in the industry.

For the last several years, we have been developing a global community of sailing resources with a heavy emphasis on the sailing (or cat trawler) vacation aspects. We currently book bare boat charters in the Caribbean and on the East Coast. We plan to expand to book additional companies, crewed boats, and additional areas. We are looking for a dynamic, motivated, service oriented individual to join our team. (An x-travel agent might be perfect!)

Each SailScape base retains their own management company. In Annapolis, our management company is Allied Yacht Charters-AYC. AYC also maintains a network wide brokerage function. In other words we book the boats in all of our fleets as well as other selected fleets. We are looking for additional in-house broker to join our AYC team. In the near future, our in-house Brokers will appoint a cluster of virtual brokers to work on their team. So, if you are not local but interesting in working from home, contact us about that.

Are we a fit together ?

Are you comfortable working with business owner's and senior managers? High end products? Are you  computer literate especially in Access (or client databases), Outlook (or other sophisticated electronic communication programs)?.  Your client base will be sharp business men & Women and top producers that have the resources to spend thousands on a vacation and may ultimately consider a purchase of a quarter million dollars, or more for a luxury, non essential!  If you think you can work successfully in our fast paced environment--we want to talk further.

We have developed a procedure to evaluate the individuals that will join the SailScape sales team.  If you have an interest in being involved in this exciting industry follow the steps below.
We have tried to make this process simple but thorough.  Please complete the following steps (Follow the links highlighted in red as appropriate. Please use the menu at the upper left to follow the links through our site to learn more about us and our products.): One part of our interview process is to find out how persevering you are.

  1. Go to and fill out our application if you haven't already done so.
  2. We will call you and set up an interview. Meanwhile, to learn more about us, go to our staff page.
  3. Prior to the interview, we would like to see how well you are able to get the information from our site. (Use the menu on the upper left or here to go to the Charter boat page.)
  4. Test for becoming a charter broker.. Please take this test and submit it prior to your appointment interview. We are interested in your ability to use our web site to get answers and ultimately answer questions. Our customers do this all of the time! Probably 80% come from the Web.

We will call you for an interview with our Sales Manager after receiving TEST 1. After the interview, we will continue...

  1. Please review our Web page regarding our investment program. About half  of our clients need to have this explained in detail (You don't actually do this, but you support it!) at some point. After you read about our program, we want you to use your search engine to find at least one other Charter management program and then explain the differences.
  2. TEST 2. Test for YPSMP (Yacht Profit Sharing Management Program.).
  3. After completing and sending in Test 2, we will call you in for a second interview where you will take Test 3 and be interviewed by one of our senior brokers.
  4. TEST 3. (Right now you will take this test in person in the office.) Take this test for personality profiles. Understanding the 5different client personality types.  Explain how to handle each case differently based on personality. Write 3 sales/follow up letters. Take a personality profile test for yourself.

The second interview will include meeting with a senior staff member. Compensation, benefits Policies and procedures will be discussed at this time. If everyone is comfortable with the fit at this time, a final interview will be set up with the President, Eric Smith. Assuming all goes well at this level, a trial period will be set up as follows.

Trial period:

  1. ½ Day spent going over Agreement, Commission Addendum, Policies, and Procedures. Procedures reviewed  for E-mail, phone systems,  printing, Access (Database use), etc.
  2. 3 Days spent shadowing Sales Manager
  3. 2 Days spent with Service manager
  4. 1 day spent with Business Manage
  5. Next week spent review Products, WEB information (see index), Shadowing sales Broker ½ day.
  6. One day on your own with supervision.

We are looking for serious career minded professionals who are willing to make a substantial commitment for substantial rewards. There really is no upper income limit and we are open to all kinds of new approaches, many of which we're investigating already.
